Mike was the CEO for Motor City Protect, LLC, a start-up security company providing innovative security services to businesses in Detroit’s Central Business District.
Project Lighthouse, co-founded by Mike, was developed to enhance the safety and security of visitors, employees and residents of Detroit’s Central Business District. It’s a public-private-partnership, neighborhood watch program with more than 40 local organizations and law enforcement agencies – all collaborating to keep Detroit residents, daily commuters, and visitors safe. It provides shelter, aid, safety, information, potential lodging and temporary assistance – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It has been recognized as a Best Practice of Public-Private Partnership by the Department of Homeland Security.
Prior to joining Rock Ventures in 2011, Mike served as Director of Global Security for General Motors and spent more than 33 years with General Motors Corporation. During his time with General Motors, Mike was responsible for executive protection, crisis management, travel security, threat assessments, future product security and security operations for GM’s global headquarters in Detroit. He established the GM global crisis command center and developed GM’s corporate crisis management program for global crisis teams. Mike was a three-time recipient of General Motor’s highest honor, The GM Chairman’s Honors, for his Security Leadership on major corporate projects.
Previously, Mike served as the Chair for the U.S. Homeland Security Department, Critical Manufacturing Sector Coordinating Council and as a board member of Crime Stoppers of Southeast Michigan.
Mike is a deputized sheriff of Wayne County in Michigan. He has a Master’s Degree in Security Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy and a Bachelor’s Degree in Management of Human Resources from Spring Arbor University. He is a Board-Certified Protection Professional of the America Society for Industrial Security. In addition, Mike is involved of the following organizations:
